The record loss recorded by the Swiss Central Bank (SNB) in 2022 was 132.5 billion Swiss francs. This amount is slightly higher than the first estimate made in January. In a press release published last Monday, March 6, the bank detailed the final figures for the past year, the institution indicates that it is therefore cancelling payments to the Confederation and the cantons. According to him, “this loss makes any distribution for the 2022 financial year impossible.” The BNS usually pays them part of its profits.

It made a profit of 26.3 billion Swiss francs and thus paid them a total of 6 billion francs in 2021. The Swiss Central Bank relies on a vast investment portfolio, including gold, stocks and bonds, to conduct its monetary policy.
