A press release announced that the unemployment rate in the Oecd area remained stable at 4.9% in January 2023. According to the press release, this is the seventh consecutive month at this level, the lowest since the start of the series in 2001.

In 12 of the 38 OECD countries, the unemployment rate has been stable, but remains close to its lowest level in only 7 countries, including Germany, Canada, the United States and France. Indeed, the number of unemployed people in these countries has fallen to 33.2 million.

This rate remains close to the record level reached in July 2022. According to the press release, “in January 2023, the unemployment rate ocde for women in the zone fell slightly to 5.1% after 5.2% in December, 0.5 percentage point higher than that of men, who remained accurate; generally stable.

However, the overall gender gap in the OECD area masks big differences between countries. Compared with men, the unemployment rate for women was higher in 18 OECD countries, with the largest differences recorded in Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Greece and Turkey.” Moreover, the unemployment rate of women was lower than that of men in 16 OECD countries.
