Across Nigeria, oil outlets have been ordered to now sell fuel between $1.04 and $1.23 per liter, an increase of nearly 200 per cent over the original price of less than $0.43.

This order was given by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

The National Union of Electrical Employees (NUEE) asked its members to cease their activities throughout Nigeria long after the announcement of the new president Nigerian Bola Tinubu for the abolition of the oil subsidy regime. The NUEE urged its members to comply with the directive and to stop work in the early hours of Wednesday 7 June. According to the country's president, the government has already set aside $7 billion to subsidize fuel in the first six months of the year, which represents 15% of the budget, more than the combined benefits for education (8.2%) and health (5.3%
