The IEA is raising its forecasts to 102.2 million barrels per day (mb/d) this year (+2.2 mb/d over a year), the “highest level ever recorded” in a report published last Friday. According to the agency, this rise in global demand is “driven by summer air travel, the increased use of oil in power generation, and the surge in Chinese petrochemical activity.” Global demand reached a record of 103 mb/d in June, and August could peak again after two quarters of
contraction.
