Benin, Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire must repay $14.5 billion in eurobonds by 2048, mostly in euros. The majority of this sum, 9.5 billion dollars, must be paid in euros. In reality, these countries have a special arrangement that allows them to maintain a fixed value of their currency in relation to the euro. They also need to repay $4.9 billion in U.S. dollar bonds, which are risky because their value may change if the dollar exchange rate changes.
