The spokesperson for the UN Secretary General said Thursday that five countries, including Benin, have notified the UN of their participation in the future mission led by Kenya in Haiti to help the police fight against gangs.

Stéphane Dujarric reported that on 28 February, the UN received official confirmation from Benin of their intention to support the mission with personnel. In an attempt to help the outdated police in the face of gang violence, the UN Security Council agreed in October to send a multinational mission to Haiti led by Kenya
