The World Bank (WB) through its recent report highlights the profound economic inequalities that continue to divide the planet.

More than half of the 75 poorest countries saw their GDP per capita grow at a lower rate than rich nations during the year 2023/2024. According to information from the World Bank, a third of these countries currently have a GDP per capita that is lower than before the Covid-19 pandemic. For Indermit Gill, chief economist at the World Bank, “the well-being of these countries is essential for the long-term prosperity of the planet. Three of today's economic powerhouses, China, India, and South Korea, have been countries benefiting from IDA loans.” The issue of aid to developing countries will be at the heart of discussions at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, which will take place this week in Washington
