Makhtar Diop, CEO of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has been in Benin since May 1. The objective of her visit is to reaffirm the institution's commitment to strengthen its support for the private sector growth strategy and the country's goals for economic growth, job creation and sustainable development. This is Mr. Diop's first trip to Benin since he was appointed to this post

During this visit, Mr. Diop was received by the President of Benin, Patrice Talon, the Minister of State in charge of Economy and Finance of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, as well as other members of the government, business leaders in the agri-food sector and women entrepreneurs. Discussions focus on how Benin can create quality jobs, develop its economy, and promote shared prosperity by promoting private-sector-led growth, particularly in the agri-food, industrial and tourism sectors, while taking advantage of its strategic position as a transit point to West Africa.

Mr. Diop will conduct field visits with local authorities and will also interact with young entrepreneurs and innovators from Sèmè City to discuss the growth potential of the start-up ecosystem in Benin.
