C'était le mardi 21 mai dernier que le gouvernement du Togo a officiellement lancé un “ Project to protect the Togolese coast subject to coastal erosion”.

The Project to protect the Togolese coast subject to coastal erosion is financed by the Islamic Development Bank (BID) to the tune of 128 million euros or nearly 84 billion FCFA. It aims to protect a 14 km stretch of coastline between Katanga and Gbodjomé and includes the construction of detached but continuous breakwaters over a distance of 14 km to protect the economic and social infrastructure of the area from erosion. The main objective of this project is to reduce coastal erosion to less than 1 meter per year. The total cost of the activities amounts to 129 million euros, financed to the tune of 128 million euros by the IDB and 1 million euros by the Togolese State. The estimated duration for the completion of the project is five years.
