Over the past year, trade between Morocco and Algeria has declined, falling by 62% over one year to 1.3 billion dirhams ($130 million), the lowest level since 1999.

Data from the Moroccan Exchange Office mentions Moroccan imports from Algeria fell last year to 650 million Dirhams, a decrease of 61% compared to the previous year, while Moroccan exports to Algeria stood at around 653 million Dirhams, registering a drop of 18%. Trade between the two countries was estimated in 2021 at around 6.9 billion Dirhams ($695 million), of which 5.8 billion Dirhams were Moroccan imports from Algeria. Natural gas once made up the largest part of Algerian exports to Morocco, but after stopping the passage of gas through Moroccan territory, dates became the largest product imported by Morocco from Algeria, with a value of 441 million dirhams, or 67% of the total value of

imports.
