The Sierra Leonean presidency announced on Tuesday on its X account that it had inaugurated the “construction of the first major independent industrial-scale electricity production project in Sierra Leone” in Freetown, the capital. The U.S. Finance Agency for International Development (DFC), a U.S. government agency that is a partner in the project, said that “construction is starting now and is expected to be completed in 36 months.” This installation will be the first gas-fired power plant in Sierra Leone.
