La monnaie ghanéenne a fortement c plummeted and production costs soared. As a result, cocoa farmers decide to smuggle into Côte d'Ivoire to sell them at a reasonable price

.

Farmers are turning to the illicit trade in the world's second largest cocoa producer. According to Isaac Antwi, a Ghanaian cocoa farmer, “with the cedi losing value every day, selling to Ghana is not enough.” According to him, “the prices are better across the border and the stronger currency allows me to feed my family and pay off my debts.”

The depreciation of the cedi, which has lost more than 20 percent of its value against the dollar this year, has seriously affected the profitability of cocoa farming, even as international prices exceeded $10,000 per ton in March before falling in recent months. Cocoa farmers are forced to sell their products to the Ghana Cocoa Board or COCOBOD, a public body that sets prices to help protect producers from market volatility
