Niamey had built a pipeline connecting it to the port of Cotonou in Benin in order to export its oil. However, faced with security risks, the country is turning to the Chad Cameroon pipeline.

Tensions between Benin and Niger have compromised the management of the project to build a pipeline connecting the two countries. Cotonou is accused by Niamey of becoming a base for destabilization by the newly installed French and American armies. According to Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, also in charge of Economy and Finance, the Nigerien transition authorities are seriously considering the alternative of the Chad pipeline, which passes

through Cameroon.
