The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Senegalese government have signed a financing agreement for the Food System Resilience Program (FSRP) for a total amount of 27.8 million euros.

Le Food System Resilience Program is expected to benefit 600,000 people, including small-scale producers, small-scale processing industries, members of producer organizations, and micro, small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises, according to IFAD. In Senegal, the agricultural sector supports 62% of the rural population and employs more than 38% of the active population. According to IFAD's Country Director for Senegal, Matteo Marchisio, “the FSRP is a comprehensive program that addresses all dimensions of resilience to external shocks and the various aspects of food insecurity, agricultural production, agricultural production, research, research, marketing, public policy development and financing. This is a major project for the Senegalese Government because by taking into account these different dimensions, it targets the root causes of food crises and helps to prevent food insecurity at the regional level

.”

The latter noted that “IFAD funding will be used to improve the country's food and nutrition security, as well as the resilience of smallholder farmers. More specifically, the Fund's contribution will be used to strengthen the capacity of producer organizations to adopt climate-smart and agro-ecological practices and technologies.”
