Dans un Press release published on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the oil giant TotalEnergies confirmed that it had signed an agreement with the Norwegian company Statec.

The French company buys a major portfolio of hydroelectric projects in the Great Lakes region and Malawi. For this reason, the company is taking significant shares in a major power plant in Uganda, where it is developing a mega-oil project. The Norwegian company Statec will in fact grant TotalEnergies “100% of its subsidiary SN Power” to TotalEnergies. This new portfolio includes minority participations in two projects under development in Rwanda and Malawi, of 260 MW and 360 MW respectively

This mega-oil project is strongly contested by environmental and human rights associations. A pipeline of nearly 1,500 kilometers is planned to transport oil from the Lake Albert fields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania style="font-family: "Bookman Old
