Ghana is once again expected to miss its cocoa production target for the 2024/2025 campaign. After having revised its harvest forecast to 617,500 tonnes in December 2024 against an initial target of 650,000 tonnes, the Cocoa Council (Cocobod) is now counting on a maximum volume of

600,000 tonnes.

Before this season, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) sought to collect 610,000 metric tons of cocoa beans for the 2024/2025 harvesting season.

However, speaking on PM EXPRESS BUSINESS EDITION with host George Wiafe, COCOBOD CEO Dr. Ransford Abbey said that production currently stands at 590,000 metric tons with just a few months to go before the end of the season.

“I don't think much will change, considering how much time we have to finish the harvest season,” suggested the COCOBOD managing director.

He observed that “we could produce about 600,000 [metric tons] at most, given that we are currently in the light crop season and we don't see things improving much.”

Dr. Randy Abbey was however optimistic about the production target for the 2025/2026 harvesting season, based on some measures taken by COCOBOD to improve yields and motivate cocoa farmers to increase production in the coming months.
