The S&P 500 index closed at a new high of 6,279.35 points after an increase of 0.8%. The Nasdaq Composite also set a new record of 20,601.10 points, gaining 1%. For its part, the Dow Jones index rose 0.8% to 44,828.53 points, approaching less than 200 points from its peak at the end of 2024.
In Asia, the Nikkei index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.1% on Friday at the end of trading. The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.7%, while the Hang Seng fell by 0.4% on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
The 10-year US Treasury bond yield was 4.35% (+7 basis points, or 0.07 percentage points) at the close on Thursday evening. The stock rate at two years was 3.89% (+9.5 points).
The greenback lost 0.4% against the Japanese currency, to 144.33 yen. Around 7:40 a.m., the euro gained 0.2% to 1.1783 dollars.
The August contract for soft light crude (WTI) listed on Nymex sold 9 cents (-0.1%) to $66.91 per barrel. Around 7:40 a.m., the September contract for North Sea Brent traded in London lost 18 cents, or 0.3%, to $68.62
