Speaking at the launch of the AI Application Training Center in Accra, Ghana, Google Senior Vice President, James Manyika, said that Africa is currently home to numerous pioneering and inspiring AI research and application activities.

The center will be a place for training, collaborating, and testing programs to improve AI literacy for local communities.

One of the most notable initiatives announced is the AI for Food Security Partnership, which aims to connect researchers and non-profit organizations to develop tools that can detect hunger early, increase crop resilience, and improve the abilities of farmers' decision making.

The initiative aims to help African food systems become more resilient to climate change shocks and economic crises.

Google also announced plans to launch a funding platform to support AI startups in the agriculture, health, and education sectors. Through the Google.org Foundation, the company committed $7 million to develop AI training programs in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana
