Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced in a message posted on the social network X on Thursday that Ethiopia has signed an agreement with the Nigerian group Dangote to build a fertilizer manufacturing plant worth 2.5 billion dollars.

This investment project is part of the desire of Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote to end fertilizer imports from Africa. Located in the city of Gode in south-eastern Ethiopia, the factory will produce 3 million tons of fertilizer per year, said Abiy.

The agreement was signed by the state-owned Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) and the Dangote Group.

Ethiopia will have a 40% stake in the company while the Dangote Group will own 60%, said EIH CEO Brook Taye at the signing ceremony in Addis Ababa.
