OCP achieves an African feat. According to the Group and the Eastern and Southern Africa Trade and Development Bank (TDB), $400 million worth of business transactions have been conducted via blockchain technology.

The OCP Group is performing well in terms of the use of disruptive technology in industry and agriculture. $270 million has already been executed, with the rest expected in the coming months. As a result, several thousand tons of fertilizer are shipped from Morocco to Ethiopia as part of these transactions.
OCP thus becomes the first African company to execute an intra-African commercial transaction using blockchain technology. According to the company, this initiative is part of the Group's digitalization strategy. The objective is to contribute in particular to alleviating the trade financing gap in Africa and to stimulating intra-African trade, in particular in the fertilizer sector, through digital inclusion.
“With the current slowdown in global logistics and supply chains, trade finance transactions can take up to six weeks, as border and airport closures continue to cause additional delays,” indicates the OCP Group.
The blockchain has a lower carbon footprint and allows for “more secure operations thanks to encryption and verification technologies”, notes the company. This technological device also has advantages, namely: more transparency and traceability, and risk reduction thanks to the elimination of any errors and ambiguities in the exchange and modification of documents.
