The Director of Foreign Trade of Senegal, Oumar Diallo announces that the extensions of the dispute between Wave and Orange Money in terms of prices for money transfer solutions are being played out at the Competition Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union ( Uemoa).

Oumar Diallo highlights the press release from the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority (Artp) which, on the dispute between Wave and Orange about the purchase of Orange credit via the Wave application, recommended as a precaution to the accused (Sonatel Sa) to apply, without reservation, the principles of equality and treatment, transparency and non-discrimination, by granting the complainant (Wave mobile money) the same conditions as those applied to its subsidiaries or its partners, in particular Orange Finances mobiles, in accordance with Article 76 of the Electronic Telecommunications Code. A way for the Director of Internal Trade to refer to the “Competition Commission of the West African Monetary Economic Union (UEMOA), which is empowered to decide on these disputes.

As a reminder, because of the Wave money transfer service, whose sending costs amount to 1%, Orange money saw its turnover drop drastically in favor of the American operator. This observation had also led him to considerably lower the cost of transferring money. Thus, for shipments of sums between 3,001 and 5,000 CFA francs, the sender must now pay 25 CFA francs when the receiver must pay the withdrawal costs estimated at 50 CFA francs. However, the sender may also bear both transfer and withdrawal fees. This makes a total of 75 F Cfa in costs for a shipment of 5,000 F Cfa, instead of 350 F Cfa previously. For transfers between 3,0001 and 50,000 FCfa, the sending costs now amount to 200 FCfa and those for withdrawing to 450 FCfa. Which makes a total of 650 F Cfa instead of 1,700 F Cfa before the new scales.
