The Bceao Monthly Statistics Bulletin for the month of May 2021 reveals that at the level of the WAEMU interbank market, the average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, decreased by 12.7% to stand at 433 .9 billion in May 2021.

According to the analysis of the Bceao, the weighted average rate of the said operations stood at 2.59%, against 2.57% the previous month. For the one-week compartment, the average volume of transactions stood at 339.3 billion during the month under review, against 310.0 billion a month earlier. In addition, the average interest rate on this window increased slightly to settle at 2.37% in May 2021, against 2.33% the previous month. The average deposit interest rate on term deposits stood at 5.0% in May 2021, almost stable compared to the previous month. The trade turnover index increased by 21.1%, year on year, in May 2021 against an increase of 21.8% the previous month. Similarly, the index of turnover in market services increased by 18.7% during the period under review, after an increase of 20.2% a month earlier. With regard to industrial production, the index progressed by 11.9% in annual rhythm, during the month under review, against an increase of 15.6% the previous month.
