Actors in the cocoa sector in Ghana have agreed on an increase in shipping rates. This increase was 5% in line with the global freight situation and the general rise in prices and costs.

After tight negotiations during the 2021/2022 Cocoa Negotiation Conference held in Accra on September 10, it was decided that the increase in conventional freight will be 5% from the start of the next cocoa campaign, namely next October 1. Thus, the cost of transporting a ton of beans from Accra to the United Kingdom goes from £30 to £31.50, to countries in the northern hemisphere more generally from €49 to €51.45, to Estonia is specified from €56 to €57.75, to Mediterranean Europe from €55 to €58.80, to Asia from $89/94 to $94.19/99.48 and to Brazil from $103 to $109. The bunker adjustment factor (BAF), intended to compensate for the increase in fuel, was also raised. It goes from 27 to 28 cents on all destinations except Asia and Brazil.
