The Vice President of the World Bank, Ousmane Diagana announced during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the partnership between Mauritania and the World Bank that “the portfolio of World Bank projects in Mauritania today amounts to 1 billion dollars”.

The World Bank's portfolio of projects in Mauritania covers almost all development sectors. According to the Vice President, the first project that the World Bank financed in Mauritania dates from 1964. This is the financing of the project to build the road connecting Nouakchott and Rosso in 1964. The World Bank was, of course, requested by the Government of Mauritania to contribute to the financing of Mauritania's priority development objectives

Ousmane Diagana invoked the main challenges that must be overcome, in particular the rather complicated geographical context of the Sahel region, with the challenges of drought and floods as challenges, which can endanger efforts in terms of development and social protection.
