The Bceao analyzed the situation of the WAEMU interbank market in its monthly statistics bulletin for September. The report indicates that the WAEMU interbank market recorded in September 2021 a decline in the average volume of transactions estimated at 10.1%.

 

The average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, stood at 390.3 billion in September 2021, down 10.1% compared to the previous month. The weighted average rate rose from 2.47% in August 2021 to 2.62% during the month under review. The average interest rate rose to 2.32% in September 2021, against 2.25% the previous month.

In addition, the Bceao notes a favorable opinion from business leaders in September 2021. The business climate indicator came out at 102.9, almost stable compared to the previous month. The trade turnover index increased by 13.2%, year on year, in September 2021, compared to an increase of 15.3% the previous month. The index of turnover in merchant services increased by 17.0% during the period under review, after an increase of 18.2% a month earlier. Based on official data, the inflation rate in WAEMU stood at 4.3% at the end of September 2021, against 3.5% the previous month.
