The Fitch Solutions agency reveals, in its economic analysis, a reduction in budget deficits for Cameroon in 2022-23. This deficit will be 2.6%.

Cameroon's budget deficit will increase from 2.8% of GDP in 2021 to 2.6% in 2022, thanks to increased revenue collection. That's what we take away from the Fitch Solutions publication. However, the increase in current spending will prevent a greater reduction in the deficit. This rate will be lower, in 2023, to 2.3% of GDP, as the government focuses on fiscal consolidation and revenue collection increases. Also, public debt will fall slightly in 2022, to 47.4% of GDP, compared with 47.6% estimated in 2021, before falling further to 46.2% in 2023 on smaller deficits.

Fitch Solutions points out that high salary spending will prevent a further reduction in the budget deficit. However, government revenues will increase more rapidly, leading to a reduction in the budget deficit in 2022. As economic conditions continue to improve, the agency anticipates a further increase in tax revenues due to increased consumer and business activity.
