On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari stressed the importance of continuing the fight against corruption and preventing practice opportunities corrupt in the country.

During a program broadcast as part of activities marking the 62nd anniversary of Nigeria's independence, the president addressed the nation in Abuja referring to achievements in the fight against corruption during its presidential terms. According to him, this progress was a step in the reform process that he was committed to pursuing. “We have strengthened the institutions responsible for fighting corruption and we have also cultivated international support, which has facilitated the repatriation of huge sums of money illegally kept out of the country”, he said. According to him, the increasing number of prosecutions and convictions, with associated refunds of large sums of money, is still ongoing.
