The CFA franc, the common currency of the 8 countries of the WAEMU, appreciated by 1% overall in the second quarter of 2022 in quarterly variation against the currencies of the countries in the zone, according to a report on monetary policy in the WAEMU published by the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). This follows a depreciation of 2.7% in the previous quarter. Indeed, the central bank said, the currency of the West African Monetary Union (WAEMU) has increased against the cedi (+6.7%), the Leone (+3.3%) and the Liberian dollar (+0.2%).
