Senior officials, lenders, economists and debt experts from international financial institutions and multilateral development banks organized Tuesday online 23 August 2022: a high-level political dialogue on sustainable debt management in Africa

The African Development Bank is organizing a political dialogue via videoconference on the sidelines of the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8). Indeed, there have been disruptions in economic activity and global trade as a result of the persistent effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is supported by the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Africa did not remain on the sidelines. It is facing a difficult balancing act, such as protecting populations and vulnerable economic sectors from the impact of war and then containing the vulnerabilities associated with debt.

Thus, the political dialogue will provide an opportunity to discuss at length the current and future debt architecture and solutions to better capitalize on international initiatives such as the Common Framework for debt treatment, beyond the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative.
