In its Government Action Plan (PAG), Benin aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency through the establishment of infrastructure and reforms. This last component is one of the three axes financed by the envelope of $100 million recently allocated to the country by IDA.

The World Bank has approved, through the Association for International Development, the disbursement of $100 million for Benin. The funds will support the government in strengthening the financial stability of the energy sectors, accelerating the development of the digital economy and better management of taxation and public debt.

This involves more specific support for the reforms launched by the country in the mobilization and administration of tax resources as well as in debt management. Part of the reforms is also the improvement of the financial situation of the Benin Electricity Company, the development of renewable energies and the promotion of a competitive, sustainable and accessible digital sector.

“Benin can build an economy that is more resilient to shocks and facilitates the creation of more productive jobs and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises. This financing contributes to this objective by ensuring the sustainability of the electricity sector, by stimulating competition in Internet-related services that will be offered to citizens at a more affordable cost,” said Atou Seck, the World Bank representative for Benin. .
