Despite the investments made in recent years in Côte d'Ivoire, demand growth still outpaces supply growth. In 2019, net electricity production in Côte d'Ivoire strengthened by 6.9%, from 9,835.3 GWT to 10,514.4 GWT, mainly from hydropower generation (+17.6%) compared to (+2.4%) for thermal source production.

Meanwhile, domestic consumption increased by 9.6% from 6893.5 GWT to 7554 GWT driven by good momentum in both segments (Low Voltage and Medium-High Voltage). Exports followed the same dynamic with an increase of 9.3%. In the end, sales in the sector increased by 9.5% from 7971.6 GWT to 8732.7 GWT.

According to the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energies, Abdourahmane Cissé, in a report presented to the Ivorian Senate on May 11, 2020, the Ivorian Electricity Company (C.I.E) would have 2.5 million subscribers to date. If this figure were to be confirmed, it augurs an increase of more than 300,000 subscribers in 2019. Indeed, the Ivorian Electricity Company had only 2,196,725  subscribers at the end of 2018. Due to the still low rate of access to electricity in the country, it can be said that the future is rosy for the CIE, a value of the future.
