In the first quarter of this year, Nigeria lost at least $1 billion as a result of the oil theft. Indeed, oil theft and illegal gold mining constitute a deficit of N6. 26 trillion. Thus, per day, 103,000 barrels recorded in 2021 can be recorded, which rose to 120,000 barrels in the first quarter of this year. Also, the national production recommended by the commission was 2.2 million barrels while the average production per day in 2021 was 1.5 million barrels. As a result, only 58% of the technical rate reached last year and similar performances continued in 2022. In this case, it is urgent to make more concerted efforts every quarter to stem the tide.
