Louga, Senegal welcomed on Thursday November 20, 2025 a regional awareness-raising workshop on the fight against money laundering capital, the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The workshop took place as part of a national campaign conducted by the National Financial Information Processing Unit (CENTIVE).

The regional awareness workshop allowed better understand the mechanisms of money laundering and the financing of terrorism, often perceived in a superficial way, according to the deputy of Governor in charge of development, Papa Leity Mar. For him, “some people can be involved in illegal circuits in spite of themselves.” Papa Leity Mar noted the participation of actors from real estate, decentralized financial services, money transfer points and of economic operators, recalling the strategic position of the region of Louga, a crossroads of mobility and immigration.

According to the director of police investigations of the CENTIF, the chief commissioner Madjibou Lèye, “this campaign is a continuation of this campaign to the internalization, by Senegal, of the 2023 directive on fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation of weapons.” He recalled the adoption of Law 2024-08 of 14 July 2024, which reinforced the national legal arsenal in this field.

He also indicated that “Senegal will be evaluated again in February 2026 on the technical conformity of its device and on its effectiveness, through the eleven immediate results required”.
