At its meeting scheduled for mid-June, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will have to approve an agreement with Benin for a $658.4 million aid package. This agreement will be spread over three and a half years to help the country affected in particular by the war in Ukraine.

Assistance is to be provided under the IMF's Extended Credit Facility, an instrument for countries experiencing protracted balance of payments difficulties. The objective is "to help Benin meet pressing financing needs, preserve macroeconomic stability and anchor the country's national development plan focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals", commented Constant Lonkeng, imf mission chief who met with Benin officials in Cotonou and Washington.
