Two draft decrees were adopted during the Council of Ministers on Saturday 11 October, concerning respectively the establishment of the institution and the approval of its statutes.

The Nigerian government decided to set up a National Cyber Security Center (CNAC), thus strengthening its efforts to ensure the security of the national cyberspace. The Nigerien authorities did of ICTs a pillar of socio-economic development for the coming years. Securing cyberspace is considered a prerequisite. to make this transformation a success.

According to the minutes of the Council of Ministers, “The main mission of the National Cybersecurity Center is coordinate the implementation of the national security strategy and defense of information systems, as well as sensitive infrastructures and critical, in order to promote a secure digital environment in Niger and resilient, favorable to its economic and social development.”

The creation of the CNAC is part of the provisions of the National Cybersecurity Strategy adopted in December 2022. This strategy aims to “ensure a sustainable digital transformation in Niger and effective” and to “strengthen the confidence of investors and the public in information and communication technologies.” The authorities consider ICTs to be a real catalyst for development socio-economic, an approach shared by many countries across the world.
