The pound plunged this Friday and reached a low in a year and a half against the dollar. However, the sharp decline in retail sales in March in the UK worries about the health of the economy.
The pound lost 1.10% to $1.2887 around 10:50 a.m. and 0.76% against the euro at 83.78 pence, also suffering from the difficulties of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, mired in the holiday scandal during the lockdown. Retail sales fell 1.4% in March, marking an acceleration of the decline seen in February (-0.5%), although they remain slightly above their pre-pandemic level. On the other hand, the euro fell 0.34% to $1.0797.
