The South African rand remained stable in early trading on Wednesday, while the dollar held near a two-decade peak reached on Monday after the Reserve F& Eacute; dérale indicated that American interest rates would stay higher for longer. At 0738 GMT, the rand was trading at 16.9925 against the dollar, 0.01% lower than its previous close.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, was up 0.046% to 108.8, just below a two-decade high of 109.48 reached on Monday.
