At the end of a hearing on Monday, November 17, 2025, the Appeals Chamber of the Court for the Suppression of Economic Offences and terrorism (CRIET) has issued a new decision in the broken case of a bank involving former deputy Désiré Vodonou.

Sentenced to 14 years in prison and fined 2 billion 110 million FCFA at first instance, the defendant and his co-defendants saw their sentence reduced to 7 years in prison and to just over 700 million FCFA fine on Monday. In his decision, the judge confirmed the confiscation of all the assets of Désiré Vodonou and his co-defendants, except those reserved for family use. The CRIET Appeals Chamber also has confirmed the ban on the stay in Benin of the Senegalese, Sy Sérigne Abdoule Aziz, after his sentence, as well as the ban on exercising the profession of banker with respect to the ex-branch manager BGFI in Godomey.

As a reminder, the case Bank breakup broke out in 2022. The defendants were arrested for having tried to interfere in the BGFI computer system in order to introduce money from Russia.
