Green economy: WAEMU rewards innovative start-ups

Manga, 14 Dec. 2020(AIB)-The Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) is organizing, from 19 to 30 December 2020, award ceremonies for the winners of the "UEMOA Start-up Springboard" competition rewarding innovative companies and promoters of the green economy , we learned.

The winners of the "UEMOA start-up springboard" competition of member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) will receive their awards from 19 to 30 December 2020 in their respective capitals, said a statement from the Union, dated 14 December 2020.

The competition "Tremplin start-up UEMOA", the first of its kind, has chosen as a sector that of the Green Economy . "This initiative aims to encourage innovation in companies, through the support of innovative start-ups", informs the WAEMU press release.

The objective, the note continues, is to diversify and densify the economic fabric of the Community area.

For the first edition, organized in collaboration with the National Consular Chambers, the ten best national start-up projects were selected and submitted to the regional competition, it is learned.

"In total, five awards of excellence were put at stake for the best projects in the sub-regional selection ranking. Twenty-four incentive prizes will also be awarded, at the rate of three per Member State of the Union, as well as bonuses to promotion structures accompanying start-ups," the statement said.

The WAEMU member States are Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
