The Director General of the Tax Administration of The Gambia (GRA) announced on January 8, 2026, at a press conference held in the GRA conference room, which she was loaded de collect 27.5 billion Dalasis in revenue for the government in 2026.

The managing director reviewed the performances of the tax institution in 2025, a year in which The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has exceeded its revenue target annual despite economic difficulties. He said that the GRA mobilized more than 25.3 billion Dalasis in 2025, representing a nominal growth of 21% compared to the previous year.

This improvement was attributed to increased efforts in terms of strengthening compliance, to the constant reforms of the fiscal management mechanism, and the intensive use of systems digital.

He then said: “the task before us Generally speaking is the mobilization of revenue, but it must be done in a fair, realistic manner and adapted to the economic environment.”

CR last said that sectors such as telecommunications, banking and financial services, trade and the oil remained the main contributors to national revenues.

The growth of telecommunications was stimulated by the increase in the use of digital technology, while the gains banking were linked to improving financial inclusion and the expansion of financial technology.

The GRA has also signed contracts for the introduction of electronic invoicing for VAT and other taxes, the Integrated Tax Management System (ITAS) and the Regulations on Revenue Guarantee for Mobile Network Operators - telecommunications. In October, the first phase of the Harmonization System Rents have been put in place.

Despite this progress, Mr Darboe recognized the persistence of some challenges, including the need to make the system more equitable taxation, to extend compliance to all categories of taxpayers and to complete the digital transformation of the Administration Gambia Fiscal (GRA).

According to him, the tax institution remains subject to “constant pressure” to meet monthly and annual goals, and that it was committed to finding a balance between mobilizing revenue and the protection of businesses and citizens against unnecessary burdens.

Looking ahead, the managing director of the GRA has declared that reforms such as the Integrated Tax Management System (ITAS), electronic invoicing and the security of the revenues of telecommunications, will make it possible to consolidate digital systems and to improve service delivery.
