Burkina Faso consolidates its partnership with the Fund International Monetary Fund (IMF). The institution's Board of Directors has completed the fourth review of the agreement concluded under the extended facility of Credit (FEC) and validated, in the process, a new agreement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (FRD).

The completion of this review paves the way for disbursement immediate value of 24.08 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR), or approximately $33.2 million. This new payment brings SDR 120.4 million (nearly $165.8 million) the total amount already mobilized by Ouagadougou under the FEC agreement.

At the same time, the Board of Directors approved a FRD agreement in the amount of 90.3 million SDR, equivalent to approximately $124.3 million. This program, which will run until 20 September 2027, foresees the first disbursements after the completion of the first review.

The reforms supported by the FRD aim to strengthen the fiscal resilience in the face of shocks, to integrate climate issues into the managing public finances, to improve business performance public authorities operating in climate-sensitive sectors and to mobilize more green financing. The objective is to anchor more firmly the climate dimension in the country's macroeconomic strategy.

At the end of the meeting, Kenji Okamura, General Manager Deputy and Interim Chairman of the Board of Directors, welcomed the solidity of the Burkinabe economy in a context marked by challenges persistent security and humanitarian issues. He pointed out that, despite these constraints, the implementation of the program was considered satisfactory.

According to him, the economic policies implemented — focused on improving governance and increasing revenue mobilization domestic — made it possible to free up budgetary margins, to support the recovery, to contain inflation and to maintain public debt on a viable trajectory.
