The Ministry of Roads and Highways through the Ghana Highway Authority has announced
the opening on Saturday 16 May of the new Tema interchange in the Greater Accra region.
Delivered a month before the deadline, the project executed by the Japanese company Shimizu-Dai Nippon JV has started
in February 2019. The project consisted of the construction of a three-level interchange with a passage
underground in the direction Accra – Aflao, a section of road of 11.72 km, a drainage system on 19.4
km, four pedestrian bridges, as well as access ramps.
Its commissioning will facilitate the connection between Accra and Aflao, on the border with Togo. infrastructure,
whose cost is estimated at 57 million dollars, was financed by the Japanese Cooperation Agency
(JICA) through Official Development Assistance (ODA) grants.
Note that this project is part of the “Growth Ring” master plan supported by Japan and which
supports the development of transport infrastructure in West Africa.
