On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Central African justice system condemned a Belgian-Portuguese consultant working for an American NGO to ten years of forced labor for complicity in criminal association and attack on the internal security of the State, for its contacts with groups armed rebels.

Joseph Martin Figueira was arrested in May 2024 and was initially being prosecuted on six counts including conspiracy, espionage and incitement to hatred, for his contacts with armed groups in Haut-Mbomou, a region plagued by clashes between groups rebels, where he was sent by the American NGO Family Health International 360. The State, which became a civil party, obtained damages from amount of 50 million CFA francs (about 75,000 euros) to compensate for the damage suffered as a result of financial, logistical or even political resources provided to armed groups, explained one of the civil party's lawyers.
