The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) has finally reopened its counters in Mali. Banks have had access to compensation since this morning, informs an internal source of the institution saying  that the decision  is effective since yesterday.

Materialized since Tuesday morning, this opening  marks the return of Mali to banking normality. The momentary decision of the Central Bank to suspend its operations to secure its staff and securities is a classic measure observed in such circumstances (coup d'état) to secure the assets of the State. Such conservative measures were also taken in 2014 in Burkina Faso and recently in Guinea Bissau.
