Bondoukou – A cashew nut purchase operation was launched on Friday in Sapli-Sepingo, a locality 40 km from Bondoukou (Northeast, Gontougo region) at the field price of 400 CFA francs set by the State of Côte d'Ivoire for the 2020 campaign.

This operation, which took place in the presence of the sub-prefect of Sapli-Sepingo, Eddy André and the local traditional chiefdom, is an initiative of the Economic Interest Group of Professional Exporters of Agricultural Products ( GIE-GEPPA) with the support of the Cotton and Cashew Council (CCA).

It aims to proceed with the removal of cashew nuts from storage stores in several localities in the department of Bondoukou in order to enable farmers to cope with the Coronavirus disease that has slowed down activities related to the marketing of cashew nuts.

According to the president of the Cooperative Society of Agricultural Producers of Coffee, Cocoa and Cashew of Bondoukou (SCOOPACAB), Ayié Alain, also a member of GIE-GEPPA, it is also, through this operation, to fight against buyers v they buy the product at prices below that set by the Government.

"The Government has seen fit to boost the marketing of cashew nuts and stimulate it by keeping the price at 400 CFA francs to support our parents producers as well as the development of the region and the country," he said, inviting producers to be patient and trust state authorities.

The president of the cooperative society "Gbagboton" of Sapli, Dua Kobenan, welcomed this initiative of the Government which relieves the peasants. He said that the income related to the marketing of cashew nuts in the village has made it possible to realize many infrastructures, including the construction of the sub-prefecture and the residence of the sub-prefect as well as the rehabilitation of the health center and the primary school.
