At a meeting last Thursday, the Central African Monetary Union affirmed that the Central African cryptocurrency rules are in breach of the regional financial framework. Thus, a call was launched for the establishment of a regulatory framework within the Cemac zone.

“Some provisions of Central African law are incompatible with the agreements and conventions governing the Central African Monetary Union and the statutes of the Bank of States of Central Africa (BEAC)”, it is on this basis that the Central African Monetary Union urged the Bank of Central African States to “accelerate the development of a framework governing cryptoassets in CEMAC.” This regulation should facilitate the launch of a cryptocurrency by the Central African Republic.
