Benin is ranked first among the 76 countries eligible for financing from the World Bank's International Development Agency (IDA), according to a statement from Benin's Ministry of Economy and Finance, published Tuesday in Cotonou.

According to this source, this World Bank assessment was carried out in the second quarter of 2020 and consisted of closely monitoring the transparency of debt management by 76 countries eligible for IDA financing.

"This new distinction crowns Benin's efforts to maintain and strengthen good practices and international standards in all areas of public management and more particularly in public debt management," the statement said.

Indeed, stresses the same source, Benin has been committed since the arrival in power in April 2016 of President Patrice Talon, for a better management of the public debt.

"This commitment has resulted in the continuous improvement of practices for the production and timely dissemination of public debt data, recognized in the context of the World Bank's evaluation on the transparency of public debt management," notes the press release.
