The dirham appreciated by 0.30% against the euro and by 0.86% against the US dollar, during the period from December 10 to 16, 2020, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).

During this period, no auction operations were carried out on the foreign exchange market, indicates BAM in its last bulletin of the weekly indicators.

As of December 11, 2020, outstanding official reserve assets stood at 291.1 billion dirhams (MMDH), down 0.1%, week-on-week, and up 16 .4% YoY.

From December 10 to 16, 2020, the Central Bank injected a total of 104.4 billion dirhams, including 39.6 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances on call for tenders, 23.9 billion dirhams in the form of repurchase transactions delivered, 33.6 billion dirhams as part of support programs for the financing of the TPME and 7.4 billion dirhams under foreign exchange swap transactions.

On the interbank market, the average daily volume of trade stood at 5.5 billion dirhams and the interbank rate stood at an average of 1.5% over the same period, notes the same source, noting that during of the call for tenders of December 16 (value date December 17), BAM injected an amount of 38.5 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances.

On the stock market, the MASI appreciated by 3%, bringing its underperformance since the start of the year to 6.2%. This development concerned the majority of sectoral indices, in particular those of “banks” with an increase of 3.8%, “agrifood” with 4.2% and “buildings and building materials” with 2.2%.

Conversely, four sectors experienced declines. These are in this case those of "electricity" with -0.4%, "holding and holding companies", "transport" and "forestry and paper" with -0.3% each .

As for the overall volume of trade, it was characterized this week by a significant increase to 2.1 billion dirhams against 423.2 million dirhams (MDH) a week earlier, in connection in particular with the introduction on December 14 of the company Aradei for an amount of 600 MDH. On the central equity market, the average daily volume amounted to 184.4 MDH against 82.7 MDH the previous week.
