The dirham depreciated by 0.79% against the euro and 0.86% against the US dollar during the period from December 17 to 23, according to Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM). During this period, no auction operations were carried out on the foreign exchange market, indicates BAM in its bulletin of the weekly indicators.

As of December 18, 2020, outstanding official reserve assets stood at 314 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 7.9% week-on-week and 25.2% year-on-year , says the same source. The Central Bank injected, from December 17 to 23, a total of 82.9 billion dirhams, including 38.5 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances on call for tenders, 15.3 billion dirhams in the form of repurchase transactions delivered, 24.2 billion dirhams as part of support programs for the financing of very small, small and medium-sized enterprises (TPME) and 5 billion dirhams under foreign exchange swap transactions.

On the interbank market, the average daily volume of trade amounted to 5.6 billion dirhams and the interbank rate stood at 1.5% on average. During the call for tenders of December 23 (value date December 24), BAM injected an amount of 44 billion dirhams in the form of 7-day advances. On the stock market, the Masi depreciated by 0.3%, bringing its underperformance since the start of the year to 6.4%. This development is due in particular to the declines recorded by the sectoral indices of "banks" (0.5%) and "agrifood" (1.7%).

Conversely, the indices relating to "transport services" and "distributors" rose by 2.2% and 1.2% respectively. As for the overall volume of trade, it amounted to 1.7 billion dirhams, against 2.1 billion dirhams a week earlier. On the central equity market, the average daily volume stood at 291.9 million dirhams (MDH) against 184.4 MDH last week.
