Senegal's trade deficit widened by 48.5 billion CFA francs due to a negative balance of 174.5 billion francs recorded in June against 126 billion the previous month, we learned from the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).

"The trade balance stood at -174.5 billion FCFA in June 2020, against -126.0 billion FCFA in the previous month," says the monthly bulletin of Senegal's foreign trade statistics.

The document published by the ANSD specifies that this widening of the deficit was the direct consequence of the deterioration of Senegal's trade balance vis-à-vis Nigeria (29.3 billion FCFA in June, against +0.2 billion in May), and India (-4 billion francs in June against a positive balance of 1.6 billion in May).

The deficit was also the result of the strengthening of the one noted vis-à-vis China (-27.3 billion in June, against -8.9 billion in May), says the report not without explaining that this deterioration in the trade balance had been mitigated by the reduction of the deficit vis-à-vis Russia (-7 billion CFA francs). in June, compared with -16.9 billion francs in May).

Year-on-year, the country's trade balance at the end of June 2020 deteriorated to -1085.7 billion CFA francs against -950.7 billion CFA francs for the corresponding period in 2019, the ANSD said.
